Fighting For You in Salem

In Salem, I’m focused on turning our shared challenges into shared solutions for our community.

The last four years serving as your State Senator has been an honor and a privilege, and we have made progress on some of the biggest challenges facing Oregonians, including:

Housing and Homelessness

Every Oregonian deserves a safe place to call home. Our housing shortage has deep impacts on our families, neighborhoods and economy.

  • Boosted housing production.

  • Supported renters to ensure they are able to stay in their homes.

  • Addressed the needs of our neighbors living on the streets.

  • Reduced barriers to housing.

Strong Schools, Strong Economy

We all share the goal of making Oregon the best place to live, work, and raise a family. In the last four years, I have:

  • Brought good-paying jobs into the region through investments in the semiconductor industry and apprenticeship programs.

  • Supported our students by passing historic investments in K-12 education and supporting the education workforce.

Safe Communities

Everybody deserves to feel safe in their communities. The drug crisis is impacting every family in Oregon, and in 2024 I took urgent action to keep people safe and save lives.

  • Made it easier to prosecute drug dealers pedaling fentanyl.

  • Bolstered prevention education.

  • Strengthened pathways to treatment including over $100 million investment in behavioral health in the 2024 legislative session.

Equal Rights and Justice

Oregonians in all four corners of our state should feel safe, welcome, and supported in our communities.

  • Protected every Oregonian’s right to make reproductive and gender-affirming healthcare decisions for themselves and their families.

  • Protected and expanded the rights and protections for LGBTQ+ communities.

  • Supported immigrant Oregonians and their rights to live, work, and build their families without fear of deportation.

Protecting Our Environment

In Salem, I’ve focussed on climate solutions that can create new jobs, reduce energy bills, and protect our communities from climate harms like extreme heat and wildfire.

  • Advocated for a healthy environment for our children.

  • Ensuring Oregon’s homes and buildings are resilient against extreme weather.

  • Set Oregon on a path for 100% carbon free electricity by 2040.

Healthcare

Healthcare is a fundamental right. In Salem, I have been fighting for equal access to high-quality and affordable healthcare.

  • Improved Oregon’s behavioral health and addiction system by securing over $920 million in investments.

  • Held insurers accountable for good patient outcomes.

  • Addressed our healthcare workforce shortage and protected healthcare professionals.

Here are some of my personal accomplishments of which I am most proud:

Resilient Efficient Buildings Package (2023)

Reproductive Health and Access to Care Act (2023)

Ensures that every Oregonian has access to safe, affordable homes and buildings by:

  • Helping Oregonians maximize rebates and incentives to purchase and install heat pumps.

  • Ensuring new buildings are constructed efficiently to save Oregonians’ money on energy bills, improve indoor air quality and reduce climate pollution.

  • Driving energy efficiency improvements and pollution reduction for our largest commercial buildings.

  • Reduce climate pollution from state-owned buildings, helping to reach our pollution reduction goals and ensuring our government leads by example.

Protects Oregonians’ basic rights and freedoms to make decisions about their own bodies by:

  • Establishing in state law that Oregonians have the same rights to reproductive health care they had under Roe v. Wade.

  • Requiring insurance companies cover medically necessary gender-affirming care.

  • Protecting medical providers' ability to give the best, most appropriate care to their patients.

Free Breast Cancer Screenings for All (2023)

Makes medically necessary breast cancer diagnostic imaging tests and supplemental breast exams free to patients.

Protecting LGBTQ+ Communities (2021)

 A suite of bills that:

  • Ban the use of so-called ‘gay panic defense’ in Oregon.

  • Update the Equality Act in the Oregon constitution to recognize gender identity and sexual orientation.

  • Allow pharmacists to prescribe, dispense, and administer PrEP and PEP.
